Questions and Answers
Q: What are clinics for?
A: Clinics cover detailed event information, race route descriptions, safety procedures and more. The practice session will give teams the opportunity to practice on the open water with the help of an experienced paddling coach.

Q: Who has to go to clinics?
A: A minimum of 7 team members must attend the clinics, but the more the better.

Q: How do I get to both the race and the clinics?
A: You can take public transit! Take the #4 bus from UBC and get off at NW Marine Drive at 4th avenue. Walk northwest on NW Marine Drive to Discovery Street. Turn north on Discovery street and follow it to the Jericho Sailing Centre.

Q: What if it's too early and the buses aren't running?
A: Participants are able to bus directly from the Student Recreation Centre on Saturday and Sunday morning. The bus will be leaving at 7:00 am and will be leaving every half an hour until 9:00 and will cost $2.00 each way.

Q: What is the co-rec ratio?
A: If you have a co-rec team, you must have equal amounts of men and women +/- 1. This means that if you have a team of 8, you must have 4 men and 4 women. If you have a team of 9, you may have 4 men and 5 women, or 5 men and 4 women. If you have 10 people on your team, you must have 5 men and women.

Q: If I have a divisional team, how many team members must be in that division?
A: A divisional team consists of players from a similar unit (faculty, residence, Greek society). Every divisional team is permitted a certain number of imports (members who are not in the same division). For longboat, each divisional team is allowed to have 2 team members who are not part of the same division as the rest of the team. ie. An engineering team that has 8 engineers and 2 science students may still be considered a divisional team.

Q: How do I register?
A: You can register online at http://www.rec.ubc.ca/events/longboat/ or at the SRC front desk. Make sure you register by Wednesday the 21st.

Q: What do I wear?
A: Dress weather appropriate. Wear layers and check the weather before going to the event. There is a high chance that you will be getting wet, so bring clothes that you don't mind getting dirty.

Q: Do I need to wear shoes?
A: Everyone that will be out of the canoe at any point in the race will need footwear to protect their feet. This means that if you are the starter, the finisher, or the baton retreiver, you must be wearing shoes.

Q: I'm late! What do I do?
A: If you miss your heat, we will try to slot you into a heat that has extra space in it, however this may not be possible, and you will not be able to advance.
