Drop In Rules and Regulations

UBC REC reserves the right to refuse service based on violation of drop-in procedures, inappropriate conduct or failing to follow the directions of the SRC Building Supervisor or any UBC REC staff member.

All UBC students may use the gymnasiums and studio during drop-in times, but must present their valid UBC Student Card and sign in each time they arrive.

No food or drink in the gyms (other than plastic water bottles)

All participants/spectators must sign-in at the Operations desk and wear a wristband at all times.

All users must show a valid UBC Student Card, UBC Staff Card, UNA Card, or pay a $5 drop-in fee.

Any violators of the wristband policy will be asked to leave the premises immediately. Repeat offenders may be banned from the facility and referred to the Supplementary Discipline System for further sanctioning.

All courts must be vacated 15 minutes prior to scheduled end time in order for staff to change over activity.

During peak evenings (ie. futsal), a draw will be performed prior to the start of the activity to determine which participants will be granted access. All others will be put on a waitlist, which will guarantee them access the following week. Please see "Futsal Drop-in Lottery Details" below.

At all other times, it is first come, first served.

Drop-in times are not intended to be for intramural team practices and as such, teams should refrain from showing up intending to use the gym for practice time.

Equipment is available for rent from the SRC Front Desk with valid government photo ID (exception - we will not take passports). If the equipment is damaged or not returned in the same condition, replacement fees will apply.

Operations Staff have the right to limit the number of participants at any given time if they deem the courts too crowded or unsafe.

  • 60 people per session and each session has a different colored/patterened wristband
  • 2 draws - one at 6:55 and one at 8:55pm The first session is from 7pm - 8:45pm and the second session is from 9pm - 10:45pm.

FIRST DRAW - 6:55pm:
Cards are taken starting at 6:30pm. Any cards taken after 6:55pm are not allowed into the draw and will be called at the end, provided there are spaces.

A) Priority is given to current UBC Students. All current student cards are entered into the first lottery draw.

If there are spots left, there is a secondary draw for the other 2 sets of cards:
B) UBC Staff cards are drawn second.
C) Public cards are drawn lottery style, same as the student cards, for the remaining spots.

UBC REC Operations Staff will keep all of the cards until the first session is over. Cards can be picked up after the second draw has been completed.

Anyone not getting into the first session has the option of putting their name on the guaranteed list for the next session starting at 9pm. Guaranteed players do not get a wristband until the next draw starts at 8:55pm.

SECOND DRAW - 8:55pm:
D) At 8:55pm, everyone who was on the guaranteed list gets to sign in, leave their card and get a wristband.
E) Anyone who was in the first session is not allowed into the draw until all the student, staff and public cards for the second session (ie. all those who have not played yet) have been drawn.
F) Same draw procedures as the first draw - current UBC Students are given first priority, next are UBC Staff, then public.
G) If there are any remaining spots, the cards for the people who have played previously are drawn lottery style (if necessary). Anyone who doesn't get into this session can leave their name for the guaranteed list for NEXT week, provided they did not get a chance to play in the first session. If a participant played in the first session and entered their name to be re-drawn in the second session, they do NOT get to add their name to the guaranteed list for the following week.
